According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Culavamsa the site was selected by King Kasyapa (477 – 495 CE) for his new capital. He built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colorful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock, he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place is derived from this structure —Sīhāgiri, the Lion Rock. KANDY/NUWARA ELIYA
This morning, say goodbye to Kandy as you hop on a train for around 6 hours to Ella. It’s a kind of long trip, but you can buy all sorts of yummy treats from the onboard sellers. On arrival at Ella, check in to your accommodation which is within walking distance of the station. Once you've dropped off your luggage, perhaps head out for a visit to a local tea factory. If this doesn't take your fancy, go for dinner in one of the many local restaurants and bars.
Hill country train journey
One of the world’s most beautiful train trips, the seven hour-journey passes through tea estates dotted with workers in brightly colored saris, pine forests, waterfalls, mountains, and gorges. The railway, built by the British in 1864 to transport tea and coffee from the Hill Country to the capital, Colombo, is now one of the best ways to explore the villages, towns, and national parks along the way.
Tea factory
On a tea plantation visit, you can learn all about tea picking and tea processing and also enjoy some fine Sri Lankan tea tasting. It’s probably a much more exciting prospect if you’re a tea lover, but even if you’re not, the Hill Country (or Tea Country, as it’s sometimes called) is arguably the most scenic part of the island and worth a visit.
You’ll find rolling hills clad with row upon row of luscious, green tea plants. It’s often shrouded in a fine mist and is the perfect escape from the heat of Sri Lanka’s wonderful beaches (if you need an escape!).
Nuwara Eliya city tour
Once in town, you will be shown one of Sri Lanka's oldest post offices. A typical Tudor-styled colonial building stands proud with its red brick exterior. You will then be taken to see other traditional colonial buildings that reflect the British influence during their colonial years. Such buildings would be the HNB Bank, Nuwara Eliya Police Station, St. Xavier’s Church and Nuwara Eliya’s pride, the prestigious colonial masterpiece of the Grand Hotel with its gorgeous, manicured lawns from the outside.
Then you will be taken to Victoria Park, a beautiful park named after Queen Victoria’s commemoration. Take the time to walk around the park and enjoy the ambience and gorgeous views of its landscapes with stunning trees and lawns. This will be followed by a visit to the Nuwara Eliya Racecourse, another colonial beauty stemming from the British era. It is the only horse racing course in Sri Lanka and is renowned for the annual events held around April which are reminiscent of the Ascot Races.
Then you will visit Lake Gregory, a man-made marvel of colonial days. It was initially built for the purpose of electricity and is now used for recreation and leisure. This beautiful lake is surrounded by breathtaking views of mountains in the distance. You will have time to take part in the activities provided on-site. Such as paddle boats and other water sports.

You will be hosted by a village family for tea, where they teach you to cook some delicious Sri Lankan food.
Evening a visit to the Kataragama temple, which is the most popular temple in southern Sri Lanka.
Kataragama temple
Kataragama temple, Sri Lanka, is a temple complex dedicated to the Buddhist guardian deity Kataragama devil and Hindu War God Murugan. It is one of the few religious sites in Sri Lanka that is venerated by the Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and the Vedda people. For most of the past millennia, it was a jungle shrine very difficult to access; today it is accessible by an all-weather road. The shrines and the nearby Kiri Vehera are managed by Buddhists, the shrines dedicated to Teyvāṉai and Shiva are managed by Hindus and the mosque by Muslims.
Setha Amman temple
This place is believed to be the site where Sita was held captive by Asur Samrat (Devil King) Ravana, and where she prayed daily for Rama to come and rescue her in the Hindu epic, Ramayana. On the rock face across the stream are circular depressions said to be the footprints of Lord Hanuman.
Ravana waterfall
This waterfall measures approximately 25 m (82 ft) in height and cascades from an oval-shaped concave rock outcrop. During the local wet season, the waterfall turns into what is said to resemble an area flower with withering petals. The falls form part of the Ravana Ella Wildlife Sanctuary and are located 6 km (3.7 mi) away from the local railway station at Ella.
Yala
With early morning pick-up (with breakfast packets) from your hotel in Tissamaharama, you will be heading to the Yala wildlife park entrance, which is about 30 minutes away from your hotel.
Yala safari
Morning: Yala national park is the most visited national park on the island, which is considered to be one of the best places for a safari in Sri Lanka. Full-day Yala safari starts in the early morning and lasts till late evening giving you all the opportunities to spot leopards, elephants, bears, crocodiles and many other creatures plus avian fauna species.
Yala is considered to be one of the best places to witness leopards in the world. There were 17 ½ leopards in every 100 square kilometers in Yala national park. Block 1 of Yala National Park could be home to the densest population of leopards in the world, the densities in this tiny area have maintained around a leopard every 2 sq. kilometers. Unlike most other national parks where leopards can be seen in the dark Sri Lanka leopards are on the move during the day as well.

Yala safari, Visiting Kataragama temple, Seetha temple, Ravana waterfall

Breakfast and dinner
Tourism in Sri Lanka is booming, and with it has come a huge increase in visitors to Yala National Park. Over tourism and lack of sustainable management practices have become a major concern for us in continuing to visit Yala. In order to reduce our impact on wildlife and the environment, we are trialing visiting a less touristic section of Yala, known as Block 5. Should we determine that high tourist numbers at Block 5 also make it difficult to continue visiting responsibly we will change our itinerary to visit Udawalawe National Park, where wild elephants, wild buffalo, sambar deer and leopards also reside.
From September through October when Yala National Park has closed annually for infrastructure development and rejuvenation we go on a jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park. Udawalawe is home to wild elephants, wild buffalo, sambar deer and leopards.
Once settled, you'll head out on a jeep safari where you'll come across the area's native wildlife such as elephants, leopards and aquatic birds. This is an amazing experience that you'll never forget. After your day in nature soak in the view from the lovely hotel pool overlooking lake Tissa.
Day 7
YALA/GALLE/BENTOTA
After the leisurely breakfast at your hotel in Yala head to a west coast beach resort in Bentota. You will be stopping at a few places before arriving at your hotel such as Galle fort, the sea turtle conservation center. You will be checked into the hotel around mid-day and the rest of the day leisurely.
Mirissa
Mirissa is famous for Blue Whales and tourists have seen them throughout the years although whales consider migrating mammals. while blue whales are around here most days Bryde's whales and fin whales also recorded a few days in each month. Sperm whale pods are seen in Mirissa mostly in a few days only in March and April. killer whales and short-finned pilot whales are also spotted from time to time.
Galle
The fort has a colorful history, and today has a multi-ethnic and multi-religious population. The Sri Lankan government and many Dutch people who still own some of the properties inside the fort are looking at making this one of the modern wonders of the world. The heritage value of the fort has been recognized by UNESCO and the site has been inscribed as a cultural heritage UNESCO World Heritage Site under criteria iv, for its unique exposition of "an urban ensemble which illustrates the interaction of European architecture and South Asian traditions from the 16th to the 19th centuries.
Hikkaduwa
Hikkaduwa is one of the most popular tourist destinations in southern Sri Lanka. It is 98 km south of Colombo and its beautiful beaches a lot of glamour to this town. It is the place where you can have a glimpse of the fascinating underwater world and see the creatures that inhabit the unfathomable depths of the sea. The famed coral gardens are located here. Just get hold of a glass-bottomed boat or goggles and flippers and plunge into the ocean.
Bentota
If you are looking for an ideal romantic beach holiday Bentota located 62 km south of Colombo is the ideal place to go. The place is a small town fast developing, teeming with the growth of hotels, shopping arcades and cafeterias. There is also an open-air theatre where folk and mask dancing are performed. Amaki nuger– :
The 10 days trip was superb. We booked the trip with 4-star hotels. All hotels were perfect, good food, nice clean rooms and superb service. The trip covered a lot of ground. We travelled a lot during the trip same times visited dozens of interesting places. We did many interesting activities like visiting temples, ancient monuments, go on safari, visiting tea plantation and lying on the beach. It was a very interesting program with a nice guide.
Meheof– :
This was my first trip to Sri Lanka, and it exceeded my expectations. The guide did a wonderful job, Jaya had amazing experience and understanding, and the quality and variety of accommodations greatly enriched the trip. There was a lot of driving, but it gave us a great perspective of Sri Lanka and everything it has to offer.
Kolin– :
Sri Lanak 10 days tour was a better and more wonderful experience from beginning to end. When we were making our reservations, the firm (seerendipity tours) responded quickly and was very accommodating with our schedule. Malan, our driver and chauffeur, was eager to greet us and had lots of great suggestions for how to improve the journey. In addition to being the epitome of professionalism, he added happiness, pineapple, and chips to Sri Lanka’s display. He made sure we dodged any traps or bad experiences while providing us with just the ideal mix of the travel experience that we all desire. Everything about the product is precisely as it is stated. Nothing extra to pay, and everything was set up well. We have already told others about Malan in particular and Seerendipity in general. We are grateful that you made our first trip to Sri Lanka so memorable and pleasurable! :)!
Johanna– :
By late September 2023, we booked Sri Lanka 10-day tour with Seerendipity. We selected this firm due of their competitive pricing for both lodging and transportation. Together with incredibly easy communication and prompt responses. Thanks to our guide, Sarath, who offered all of his extensive knowledge of his culture and customs, we had a fantastic day exploring this country.
Mumtaz– :
We had a wonderful Sri L:anak trip with Sanath. Sanath served as both our driver and guide. However, he was also familiar to us as our Best Friend. We were able to enjoy unique eateries and locations because of him. When he recommended the best value locations and negotiated on our behalf with locals, we even managed to save a little cash. We could give him notice and call him at any time of day or night. He became our friend because of his warmth and charity.
Raaman– :
Totally Amazing!
There were no unpleasant surprises or unstated costs. There were no glitches during the whole eight-day tour.
Many thanks to Mr. Madusanka, our tour guide.
He was very courteous and has consistently given us accurate information.
We are grateful for his warmth and generosity.
Merissa– :
You have to visit Sri Lanka; it’s a worthwhile Srilanka trip. You should plan to stay more than ten days to really appreciate this stunning nation. Especially with “Ladip,”. He is the one who can take care of you and make all the arrangements, just like your closest friend who is by your side all the time. No matter what kind of emergency occurred, where you want to go, or how early in the morning. Simply inform Ladip, and he will appear in front of your lodging. It’s difficult to put into words what a fantastic experience we had in Sri Lanka with Seerendipity. I believe it deserves more than five stars! Best of luck and highly recommended!
Benn– :
We had the best Sri Lanka trip with Mr. Gayan, couldn’t recommend more highly. Very safe driver, excellent English, very considerate, caring and generous with his knowledge. We learned a lot about the real Sri Lanka. We fit so much in, in just 10 days, and had lots of laughs along the way doing it. Well worth the money, though we shopped around and rates were very competitive. Nothing was too much trouble, incredible to see ancient caves and wildlife (we counted more than 50 elephants in one half day safari in Minneriya) and climbs big Sigiriya Lion Rock Fortress, eat amazing food, have enlightening conversation. Very hard working and pleasant guide, he worked so many more hours within day than we expected to give us a brilliant seven days, extremely selfless. Will hope he is still working as a guide for when we return. Memories to last a lifetime, thank you!!!
shame fernando– :
Short trip to get you from a to b to c with maximum privacy. We saw a lot in 10 days but it was still well paced. Very fun and a great way to see this lovely country.
David thomas– :
We wanted to have luxury, comfort and privacy the tour offered all of them. A great choice for anyone, who look for that combination. A great taste of the culture and sights of beautiful Sri Lanka.
Malgorzata– :
Very good Sri Lanka 10 days tour, well balanced tour itinerary with plenty of time for leisure. Includes major historical places in Sri Lanka such as ancient temple, churches forts etc. Wildlife tour was excellent and enjoyed nice scenery across the hill country of Sri Lanka. Everything was very simple and easy from first enquiry for the trip to the end. good hotels, nice personalized service.
Brigette laise– :
We booked the classical tour because we need privacy and we wanted to do it as we wish. It was excellent as a preview to the country, it helped gain an understanding of the culture, money, exotic fruits, and various destinations. The only part of the trip l would shorten is the Spice garden, the spices were very interesting but it seemed to become more of a selling campaign with very high prices and a very long session. But this was the only thing, everything else was excellent.
Kathrine jones– :
What a great way to see Sri Lanka. There is a good mix of archaeology, religious temples and beaches, but best of all we had a chance to meet locals who shared their lives, their stories, their food and wonderful hospitality. It is hard to pick our favourite part, but walking in the tea plantations has to be up there. The guide had good information and support and managed the trip well.
Franz– :
It seems our first guide had a issue with his car and his attitude also somewhat strange, so we asked for another guide. Local company was later able to get Rohan to fill in for him. Rohan turned out to be a delight by helping us appreciate Sri Lanka as only a native born could. He was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and beaming with pride for his country. Displaying a wonderful places and relating the past to the present in this historical cities . He was very polite and disciplined, he treated us respectfully. Thank you Rohan.
David– :
We had a perfect quiet tour in Sri Lanka. Impressive places with a lot of interesting information. Our guide showed us a place for a wonderful local meal. Gimhan was a perfect guide! Thank you very much again. We definitely come back to Sri Lanka. 👍👍👍
Lougi– :
We were very excited about all the places and secrets which jaya showed to us. It Was rallye a pleasure

The itinerary offered an excellent blend of the vibrant Sri Lankan culture, and we travelled to many interesting areas of Sri Lanka like cultural triangle, mountains, south coast, wildlife parks, and charming small villages and bustling cities. Highlights of the trip included being awed by the beauty of the Ancient cities such as Sigiriya, wildlife safari, learning about Sri Lankan cuisine at a cooking class in Sigiriya and experiencing delicious Sri Lankan cuisines. I am most grateful to our excellent tour guide, Dinesh, who was dedicated, professional and enthusiastic at all times. He went above and beyond to ensure all of us had a unique and memorable experience. I would highly recommend this trip!

The hotels were fantastic and we specifically requested for 5-star hotels. good food, excellent vehicle and very enjoyable trip. Worth every penny.

It was a fantastic trip with after stranger in many days at home. We were a bit hesitant at the beginning but felt that we were very safe in Sri Lanka, despite few Covid-19 cases. First we spent 2 weeks in a fantastic beach resort and had nice time on the beach. towards the end of the trip we did this 10 days tour. Our driver/guide gihan was very good and friendly, but we felt very sorry for him because they were having bad time without work. Most hotels and popular tourist places are empty.

Classic Sri Lanka is a great way to get to know this beautiful country and its friendly people. It packs in touring, trekking, trains across cities, villages, hill country and beaches. Of you travel just after the COVID-19, I must say that local trip organizer had thought of every little detail to make a risk free environment to the travellers by adhering to the safety protocols introduced by the government.
Silvanaygam– :
Classic Sri Lanka tour covered a diverse section of the country, from ancient ruins, amazing cave paintings, tea plantations, beach, but the highlight for me was doing a safari into Minneriya National Park (optional) where we saw more than 200 elephants. The weather in Jan was a bit wet but we managed to cover all of the itinerary.

Was a great trip, good value for money, fraction of money you pay for a foreign tour operators for a similar kind of trip and gave plenty of free time and optional activities, good for couples or singles who want some free time to do your own thing, but have the expert knowledge and safety/security of a local guide.

As a first time visitor to Sri Lanka I found this way to see some part of the country the best way. The beach stay toward the tail end was really a good idea to wind down after hard works at home
